Backup and Recovery Integration for Dell NetWorker and ServiceNow
This Backup and Recovery Integration leverages Bocada’s REST APIs to extract NetWorker backup job details—such as protection group status, SLA compliance, backup size, and last successful run—and then transforms that data to align with the ServiceNow Backup Information table schema.
From there, the integration uses a ServiceNow IntegrationHub custom spoke and a scripted REST API to securely ingest the data on a recurring schedule.
The key is establishing a consistent mapping strategy so each backup attribute lands in the correct ServiceNow field.
As a result, you get unified visibility, reporting, and compliance tracking across your enterprise backup landscape.
Once integrated, the integration automatically associates backup information with devices in the CMDB using a related list for Backup Information.
Therefore, the organization can see the last time each device was backed up.
In addition, the integration can run nightly to bring in new backup data or to update existing information previously collected.
How it works: Backup and Recovery Integration
- First, purchase, download, and install the update sets associated with this product.
- Next, configure the connection string and credentials so the integration can connect to your NetWorker Bocada environment (typically an OAuth connection).
- Then, run a test of the built-in Integration Hub action(s) and review the data returned.
- Additionally, run a test of the built-in Integration Hub flow(s) that call the action(s), and verify the actions were called successfully and data was returned.
- Finally, schedule the flow to run at your preferred time. The recommendation is to run daily at 3:00 AM.
Data integrity and CMDB alignment
Additionally, this package supports stronger data integrity by automatically mapping NetWorker-collected backup data points to the
ServiceNow CMDB Backup Store Information table.
Note that this package adds additional fields to this table to simplify and strengthen the information returned from NetWorker.
Service Portal visibility
For example, you can display a Service Portal asset page showing assigned assets and their latest backup status.
